What a Typical Session Looks Like
Every mentor runs their sessions a little differently, but most conversations follow a structure like this.
First 10 minutes — Creative direction
You'll talk about your current style, interests, and where you want to take your photography.
Next 20 minutes — Portfolio critique
Your mentor will review your work and give detailed feedback on composition, storytelling, editing, and how your portfolio communicates your vision.
Next 20 minutes — Career insight
You may discuss editorial work, working with magazines, building relationships with stylists and models, and developing strong personal projects.
Last 10 minutes — Clarifying direction
You'll use the final part of the session to reflect on the discussion and clarify a few areas you may want to focus on next.
What You'll Walk Away With in Your First Session
- Direct, honest feedback on your images. What’s strong, what’s holding you back, and what to cut
- Clarity on your visual voice and how to develop a more cohesive body of work
- Insight into how to position your photography for galleries, publications, or brand clients
- Specific technical or conceptual areas to refine based on your goals
- A focused next-step plan to elevate your work and career direction
Plus up to 5 follow-up messages after your session to keep the momentum going.
Biography
Justin French (b. 1988) is a photographer and director synthesizing fashion, documentary, and classical portraiture to bridge historical tradition and modern identity. Utilizing the photographic frame as a "philosophical polity," he recontextualizes contemporary subjects through ancient and self-authored mythologies to examine collective perceptions of power and vulnerability. Since his 2017 debut at Red Hook Labs, French has exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, Rencontres d’Arles, and the Detroit Institute of Arts, while building an elite commercial portfolio for global leaders including Vogue, Louis Vuitton, Nike, and the Royal Ballet. Named to the British Fashion Council’s New Wave Creatives and the Dazed 100, French is defined by a commitment to elevating underrepresented perspectives through a visual language that is simultaneously timeless and urgent.
