Biography
Daniel Obasi is a Nigerian-born photographer, stylist, filmmaker, and creative director whose work reshapes how fashion and visual culture speak to identity, narrative, and possibility. Based in Lagos, Daniel has built a global reputation by blending Afrocentric aesthetics, cinematic influence, and bold visual storytelling that challenges norms and expands the language of contemporary fashion imagery.
Obasi’s lens first gained wide attention through editorial projects that questioned traditional portrayals of gender, identity, and community. His breakout works include fashion films and photo series rooted in Afrofuturism and cultural symbolism, such as An Alien in Town and Udara. The latter earned him Best New Director at the Fashion Film Festival Milano. His photo book Beautiful Resistance was published by Louis Vuitton as part of the Fashion Eye series, cementing his place among influential global visual artists.
His assignments span high-level commercial and editorial work. Daniel has styled music visuals for international entertainers and worked on Beyoncé’s Black Is King, photographed Burna Boy for Rolling Stone UK, and collaborated with award-winning designers and fashion publications including Vogue US, Vogue Portugal, Dazed, The Face, and Nataal. His imagery is recognized for confronting expectations and celebrating diversity in form, identity, and cultural expression.
Beyond campaigns and editorials, Daniel builds spaces for creative community. He founded Amah, a creative hub and studio in Lagos, aimed at fostering collaboration, exhibitions, and multidisciplinary work that bridges local perspectives with global opportunities.
Daniel Obasi’s work is rooted in imaginative craft and social impact. He uses fashion photography and film to elevate underrepresented voices and to reshape existing narratives about culture, identity, and visual beauty.
